Sarah Mayhew

Acting Lecturer

Sarah is an actor, director, writer, and Artistic Director of the female led theatre company Old Trunk. Her work spans theatre, television, film, comedy, radio, and new writing.

She began her career as a professional dancer, performing in the UK and internationally before establishing herself across stage and screen. An accomplished improviser, Sarah performed, produced, and hosted the critically acclaimed improv team Quirkish Delight and has written and performed in numerous sketch comedy productions. Her original writing has recently been showcased in New York as part of the I'm Sorry Monologues alongside Jennifer Esposito, and she was selected as a featured writer for The Shrew Series podcast.

Recent screen work includes being directed by Spike Lee in Arsenal's iconic film campaign, playing Linda. Her television credits include Julie Burwick in the BAFTA Award winning The Jury (Channel 4), Ruth Rexford in Casualty (BBC), Scary Mary in Tell Me Everything (ITV), Jenny in Professor T, Nancy in Toast of Tinseltown, Fay in Hitmen, and Maggie in White Gold (BBC). Her film work includes the multi award winning, BAFTA and Academy Award listed short My Brother Is a Mermaid, in which she played Tracy, and the acclaimed feature film Cottontail, playing Isobel.

Sarah's theatre credits include Fran in Old Trunk's critically acclaimed production Fran & Leni (for which she received a Best Actor nomination) and Jude in Pramkicker as well as The Bastard Children of Remington Steele, and The Secret Life of Andy Williams. Other stage credits include Russell Kane's Fakespeare at the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Winslow Boy, The Sunshine Boys, Erpingham Camp, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Serving It Up, and Road.

Alongside her acting career, Sarah is an experienced director of new writing and contemporary theatre. She was selected for the prestigious RYTD directing scheme at the Queen's Theatre Hornchurch and served as Assistant Director on DNA for the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama graduate production. She has directed all of Old Trunk's award winning four and five star productions and has worked as an Associate Artist at Queen's Theatre Hornchurch, a Mercury Creative at the Mercury Theatre, and a Resident Artist at Metal and E15.
