Victoria Barbé

Senior Lecturer - Singing

Victoria trained at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

She is a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, specialising in Vocal Studies, and has continually and consistently pursued extensive professional development including research in teaching and vocal pedagogy, participation in a wide range of workshops and masterclasses with leading vocal and performance professionals (including Dr Jenevora Williams, Stephen King, Pippa Ailion, Anne Vosser, Nelly Miricoioiu, Paul Farrington and Ian Judge), and is currently undertaking the Vocal Habilitation Professional programme with Vocal Health Education, having completed their Vocal Health First Aid qualification in August 2025. She has held a membership as Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since achieving her PgC in Academic Practice in 2016, and completed Estill Voice Training Levels 1, 2 and Advanced with The Voice Explained alongside a series of classes and masterclasses with Anne-Marie Speed.

Victoria is the Vocal Study Leader and a Singing Teacher for the Glasshouse International Centre for Music’s Centre for Advanced Training in Newcastle. She also runs a busy singing teaching studio online and in Hexham, leads creative projects through her company Apothecary of Arts, and serves as a Director of Dance Ahead CIC. Her work increasingly informs her research by bringing together performance, pedagogy, and community practice.

Previous education-focused posts include Guest Lecturer at Arden Theatre School, Senior Lecturer & Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Musical Theatre at the University of Cumbria Institute of Arts, External Examiner for BA (Hons) Musical Theatre at Edge Hill University, Singing Tutor at City Lit in Covent Garden, and External Panel Member for validation processes at the University of Chichester Conservatoire, University of Northampton, Stella Mann College, and LMA.

Victoria’s performance experience spans Opera, Crossover and Musical Theatre, with appearances at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, London Palladium, St David’s Hall, Buxton Opera House, and Vienna’s Hofburg Palace, under conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, John Owen Edwards, and Richard Hickox. Stage roles include Mimi (La Bohème), Zorah (Ruddigore) for the National G&S Opera Company, Mrs Gobineau (The Medium) at The Sherman Theatre, Beggar Woman (Sweeney Todd), and Ensemble Singer & Soloist in the Thursford Christmas Spectacular. Recordings include Mrs Beguildy (Harvest Home the Musical: Demo), Chorus (Trial By Jury) for Chandos Recordings and Radio 3, and has performed in a variety of classical and MT concerts.

More recently, Victoria featured as ‘Chorus’ in A Life Reset by Dimitri Scarlatto & Laura-Jane Foley (streamed on Opera Vision and winner of the Rolf Liebermann Award), and as The Singer in Dance Ahead’s Sorry for Your Loss at Theatre by the Lake and Scarborough Fringe Festival 2025, where the show was nominated for Best Dance Performance.
