Performers College welcomes new students with a packed Freshers Week

29 September, 2026

Performers College has kicked off the new academic year by welcoming new students across its four campuses in Birmingham, Brighton, Essex, and Manchester, including those joining Northern Ballet School. Freshers Week gave everyone a chance to settle in, make friends, and get a proper feel for student life before classes started.

The week was packed with gigs, workshops, film screenings, socials, and wellbeing events, giving students plenty of ways to meet their classmates and the wider BIMM University community. It was also a chance to explore their new cities, find their way around campus, and feel at home before their training begins.

Dean of Performing Arts, John Harrison, commented:

“It’s been brilliant to see so much energy across all our campuses this week. To every student joining Performers College and Northern Ballet School, welcome – you’ve worked incredibly hard to get here, and we can’t wait to support you as you grow as performers and as people. Make the most of every opportunity, look after each other, and enjoy the journey ahead.”

Birmingham

Birmingham students started the week with the Big Freshers Challenge – a race around Birmingham where some lucky students bumped into some famous faces, followed by Pizza and Pints. The Freshers Fair and Breakfast came next, along with a zine-making workshop and an Arcade Night. Other highlights included a street photography workshop, an Open Mic, the Best of BIMM Gig, a Pub Quiz, and a Radio Society taster. The week ended on a high with board games, a Mario Kart session, and an 80s Freshers Party.

Brighton

Brighton opened with a Komedia Networker and the Big Gig. Students then tried hip hop dance, escape rooms, Lazerzone, watersports, line dancing, yoga, and a craft session. Evenings were just as busy, with a gig at the Green Door Store, the Komedia Quiz, karaoke, a Komedia Open Mic, and the ANF x BIMM Clubnight. The week finished with the Freshers Fair.

Essex

Essex got things going early with a welcome breakfast and icebreakers, then the Freshers Fair. Drag Bingo and the Opening Party followed, and students later took to the stage for Bandeoke. The Musical Theatre Concert was a real highlight before the Closing Party brought the week to an end.

Manchester

Manchester students, including those at Northern Ballet School, enjoyed 3D screenings of How to Train Your Dragon and Coraline, the Freshers Fair, and a chance to explore the library. There was also Treetop Golf, an Open Mic, and BIMM Live Freshers Edition. A Dreamjob panel offered some early career inspiration, while the Wellbeing Fair and a Salford Badge Club workshop added a creative, calmer side to the week. It all came together at the Big Welcome and the Big Social.
