8 Steps to your first role – Part 6: Agent Offers

11 August, 2026

Breaking into the industry can feel daunting, but the right advice can help you take those first steps with confidence. In part six of our series on helping you land your first role, our Essex campus Careers Manager Leanne Everitt shares her top tips on how to follow up on an agent offer after your audition.

Research the agent

Do your homework before reaching out. Who does this agent represent, and what does their roster say about the agency’s specialism? Look at who their clients are currently working for, and be honest with yourself about whether you genuinely fit their list. Agents look for talent that complements what they already have, so fit matters as much as talent.

Know how you want to be seen

Be clear on your casting type and what you want to be seen for. Think about the roles and work that genuinely suit you, and be ready to articulate this. Clarity shows confidence – and makes it easier for an agent to picture representing you.

Communicate clearly and professionally

Your written approach is often an agent’s first impression of you, so make it count. Address them by name, keep your message personal and to the point, and avoid rambling introductions – agents are busy. If you don’t hear back, a timely, polite follow-up is fine; one well-timed message beats several sent too close together.

Get advice before you pitch

If you’re a Performers College student, speak to your Creative Futures careers managers before approaching agents. We can check your approach and timing, and help you pitch yourself smartly. Professional doesn’t mean pushy – it means prepared, and a little guidance now can be the difference between an approach that lands and one that’s overlooked.

You’re in control

Whatever offers come your way, remember this: the decision is yours. Agents may pursue you, circumstances may shape your options, but no one signs that contract except you. You’re not obligated to say yes just because an offer exists – and you don’t have to accept the first offer you get. Seek guidance from your tutors, careers managers, and you’ll have everything you need to make the best decision for yourself.
